Dental Implant Services

If you are missing teeth, it is crucial to replace them. Without all your teeth, chewing and eating can destabilize your bite and cause you discomfort. When teeth are missing, your mouth can shift and even cause your face to look older. Implants are a great way to replace your missing teeth, and if properly maintained, can last a lifetime!

An implant is a new tooth made of metal and porcelain that looks just like your natural tooth. It’s composed of two main parts: one part is the titanium implant body that takes the place of the missing root, and the second part is the tooth-colored crown that is cemented on top of the implant. With implant treatment, you can smile confidently knowing no one will ever suspect you have a replacement tooth.

In addition to tooth replacement, implants may be used to anchor dentures, especially lower dentures that tend to shift when you talk or chew. For patients with removable partial dentures, implants can replace missing teeth, so you have a more natural-looking smile.

Please call us at Wisconsin Dental Improvements if you have questions or would like to schedule an evaluation.

Single Tooth Dental Implant

A dental implant is a metal post that replaces a metal post that replace the root portion of a missing tooth.

Dr. Yang places an artificial tooth, also known as a crown, on an extension of the post of the dental implant, giving you the look of a real tooth. This extension is known as an abutment.

A dental implant provides several advantages over other tooth replacement options. In addition to looking and functioning like a natural tooth, a dental implant replaces a single tooth without sacrificing the health of neighboring teeth. The other common treatment for the loss of a single tooth, a tooth-supported fixed bridge, requires that adjacent teeth be ground down to support the cemented bridge.

Because a dental implant will replace your tooth root, the bone is better preserved. With a bridge, some of the bone that previously surrounded the tooth begins to resorb or deteriorate. Dental implants integrate with your jawbone, helping to keep the bone healthy and intact.

In the long term, a single implant can be more esthetic and easier to maintain than a bridge. Gums can recede around a bridge, leaving a visible defect when the metal base or collar of the bridge becomes exposed. Resorbed bone beneath the bridge can lead to an unattractive smile.  The cement holding the bridge in place can wash out, allowing bacteria to decay the teeth that anchor the bridge.

Please feel free to call WDI if you have any questions or would like to schedule a time to meet with Dr. Yang regarding your concerns.

Implant Retained Dentures

In contrast to implant-supported dentures, implant-retained dentures require fewer dental implants and clip or snap into place for security. The denture continues to receive part of its support from the gum tissue. Because implant-retained dentures are removable, they can easily be cleaned and clipped back into place.

Implant-retained dentures are a happy medium between conventional dentures and implant-supported dentures and allow a way for the wearer to experience some of the best attributes of both forms of treatment.

Instead of relying on your jawbone ridge and gums for support, implant-retained dentures attach to dental implants. Dental implants are small, threaded posts that surgeons place in your jawbone to replace missing teeth roots.

Implant-retained dentures typically offer more stability than traditional dentures because they “snap on” to implants embedded in your jaw. You won’t need denture glue to secure them in your mouth. For this reason, some people call them “snap-in dentures.”

Several types of implant-retained dentures include implant overdentures that rely on two implants, usually in the canine areas, to stabilize the denture. The all-on-4 technique is another popular and cost-effective means to stabilize dentures with four implants. For patients with limited bone width, mini dental implants can be placed instead of endosteal implants to help improve denture security.

Please feel free to call Wisconsin Dental Improvements to discuss what option would be best for you.

Implant Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures, also known as overdentures, are a type of denture that is secured to dental implants placed in the jawbone. Unlike traditional dentures that rely on suction or adhesives, implant-supported dentures offer greater stability and improved functionality, allowing for a more natural feel and better chewing ability. Implant-supported dentures utilize dental implants, typically made of titanium, that are surgically placed into the jawbone. These implants act as anchors, and the denture is then attached to them, either with a clip-on or snap-in mechanism.  Dr. Yang would be glad to discuss this option with you.

  • Benefits:
    • Enhanced stability:Implant-supported dentures offer superior stability compared to traditional dentures, preventing slippage or movement during eating or speaking.
    • Improved chewing function:The increased stability allows for a more powerful and natural bite, enabling patients to eat a wider variety of foods.
    • Preservation of jawbone:Dental implants stimulate the jawbone, preventing the bone loss that can occur with traditional dentures.
    • Increased confidence:Implant-supported dentures can improve a patient’s confidence and quality of life by restoring a natural-looking smile and function.
  • Types:
    • Removable:These dentures can be removed by the patient for cleaning.
    • Non-removable:These dentures are permanently fixed to the implants and can only be removed your dentist.
  • Considerations:
    • Sufficient bone density:Candidates for implant-supported dentures need to have adequate bone density to support the implants.
    • Overall health:Good overall health is necessary for successful implant surgery.
    • Cost:Implant-supported dentures can be more expensive than traditional dentures due to the cost of the implants and the surgical procedure.
  • Maintenance:
    • Regular cleaning:Implant-supported dentures require regular cleaning to maintain oral hygiene.
    • Regular dental checkups:Regular visits to the dentist are essential for monitoring the health of the implants and dentures.
